I’m Tom, the person behind Cold.

I’ve spent the last decade and some change helping startups tell their story, get better at marketing, and scale from scrappy to… less scrappy (but with more zeroes on the ARR).

I’ve worn the VP Marketing hat, advised founders and mentored marketers, and I know the pattern: the pressure’s on, the board’s restless, and the path forward looks like the haunted shortcut from a Saturday morning cartoon.

Cold is how I put that experience to work, helping founders and teams make real progress. And avoid the bats.

Advice only works if it fits the messy reality of your market, product, and team. I work with what's really in front of us.

ACTION, NOT ARCHIVES

I don’t do 50-page audits that end up in the digital graveyard. Because frankly, I don’t like making them.

I’ll tell you what I think is the best move based on experience and context. Sometimes the answer will be “we don’t know yet.” That’s fine, we’ll test it.

STUFF I'VE BROKEN (AND FIXED)

At WhatUsersDo: scrapped the old model, launched free trials + subscriptions, and shifted growth into gear. Result: raised Marketing-contributed revenue to 60% of new business, and got acquired after two years.

At SEDNA: doubled ARR from $5M → $10M in 12 months, built a 9-person team, and tripled marketing’s share of new business pipeline. (Learned a lot about keeping my head when the wheels wobble.)

STUFF I'VE SCALED

At UserZoom: helped grow ARR from $25M → $80M with 40%+ YoY growth, acquired 2x companies along the way, and eventually got acquired ourselves.

Turned marketing into a pipeline machine. At UserZoom, that was $18M per quarter.

PEOPLE I'VE MESSED WITH (IN A GOOD WAY)

Mentored 50+ founders and marketers via GrowthMentor and MentorCruise.

Working with founders and marketers from scrappy $1M ARR teams to post-Series B orgs, charities, and everything in between.

So that’s me. A human who likes doing cool shit, a philosophy that keeps things simple, and a track record that proves it works.
